Electric BMW 5 Series Touring En Route to Australia

BMW is reintroducing its 5 Series Touring (wagon) to Australian markets this year, offering a sole, all-electric performance variant known as the i5 M60 xTouring.

Priced at $219,900 plus on-road costs, the model commands a $4000 premium over its sedan counterpart and stands as the only wagon option in the Australian 5 Series lineup.

The 2024 BMW i5 M60 XTouring is propelled by twin electric motors generating 442kW of power and 820Nm of torque. This powertrain enables the model to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 320km/h.

Power is sourced from an 81.2kWh battery pack, providing a claimed driving range of 506km (WLTP). Charging options include a 205kW DC or 22kW AC setup, with all i5 models eligible for a five-year subscription to the Chargefox public charging network.

Despite being a wagon, the i5 Tourer maintains the same dimensions as its sedan counterpart, offering a cargo capacity of 570 liters in five-seat mode and 1700 liters in total.

In terms of design and features, the Touring closely resembles its sedan counterpart, with subtle body differences. Both models feature BMW’s latest twin headlight/kidney grille design, with LED elements arranged vertically. The interior, completely vegan, is designed to serve as a mobile office, emphasizing comfort and connectivity for long-distance travel.

Standard equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive M suspension, rear-wheel steering assistance, sport seats, four-zone climate control, head-up display, keyless entry and start, a fixed glass panoramic roof, carbon-fiber interior accents, and LED ambient cabin lighting.

Safety features are extensive, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, auto parking, blind spot monitoring, lane centering and keeping, and tire pressure monitoring, among others.

The 2024 BMW i5 M60 Xtouring is anticipated to arrive in local showrooms in the second half of 2024.
