Nissan Enhances Technology for the 2024 Model Year Patrol

Nissan’s robust V8 petrol-powered Patrol SUV has been on the market for 15 years since the launch of the Y62 generation. However, recent upgrades announced this week bring it more up to speed in terms of technology, aligning it with competitors such as Toyota’s 3.3-liter V6 twin-turbo diesel LandCruiser 300.

Over the past few years, prices of the Ti and Ti-L Patrol variants have seen gradual increases, with the latest adjustments resulting in a $3000 rise. The Ti variant now starts at $87,900 excluding on-road costs, while the top-tier Ti-L trim starts at $100,600+ ORC. The Patrol Warrior (by Premcar) also sees a $3000 increase, now priced at $104,160 + ORC.

In comparison, Toyota’s LandCruiser 300 Series starts from $98,076 + ORC for the base GX, rising to $145,876 + ORC for the range-topping GR-Sport. Despite this, the Nissan Patrol remains an attractive alternative.

The upgrades for the MY24 Patrol primarily focus on a new media unit developed in partnership with automotive supplier Directed Technologies. This unit provides wireless connectivity for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring systems through a fully featured 10.1-inch high-definition central touchscreen. Additionally, a 15-watt wireless smartphone charging pocket, along with USB-A and USB-C ports, ensures devices remain charged. The new infotainment system also offers access to additional features, including DAB+ digital radio, iGO Street Navigation, and a one-month subscription to Hema 4×4 Navigation with over-the-air updates.

Other enhancements include a full HD wide-angle reversing camera displayed through the new screen, supplemented by a digital rearview mirror. The MY24 Patrol Ti and Warrior variants also feature a cool box beneath the central front armrest, while the Ti-L variant replaces the 13-speaker Bose audio system with a six-speaker Infinity setup.

Underneath its sturdy body, the sixth-generation Y62 Patrol retains its body-on-frame construction and is powered by a 5.6-liter VK56VD petrol V8 engine delivering 298kW/560Nm through a seven-speed conventional automatic transmission. It retains a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a rear helical limited-slip differential and Hydraulic Body Motion Control suspension.

Directed Technologies executive director Brent Stafford expressed pride in delivering Nissan the only multimedia device designed in Australia, ensuring that the cutting-edge upgrades respond effectively to the rugged conditions often encountered by Nissan Patrol and Nissan Patrol Warrior owners.

Nissan Patrol sales in Australia have seen a significant increase, with a rise of 86.4 percent so far this year, totaling 2192 units delivered by the end of March. This follows a 36.5 percent uptick in 2023, with 7812 new Patrols finding homes in Australia.
