Polestar 2 Reviews 2024

Overview

Polestar has been present in the market since 2022, offering only one model, the Polestar 2 premium mid-size fastback. Last year, the model underwent comprehensive re-engineering, transitioning from a front-wheel drive to a rear-wheel drive configuration.

But the upgrades didn’t stop there. The Geely-owned BEV maker replaced the 400-volt electric motors with more powerful and efficient units, upgraded to next-gen silicon carbide electricity inverters, and equipped it with a better 82kWh Li-ion battery from CATL (on dual-motor models). Additionally, they introduced a 205kW charging system and added new safety and comfort technology features.

Although the price saw a slight increase and the exterior underwent some changes, the Polestar 2 remains recognizable. The “new” model boasts improved performance, reduced power consumption resulting in a longer range (591km claimed for dual-motor), faster charging for convenience, and enhanced driving feel and ride qualities.

Tested was the top-of-the-range Polestar 2 Dual Motor Long Range, priced at $76,400 plus on-road costs, with additional packs like the Plus Pack, Pilot Pack, and AWD-only Performance Pack, which added luxury, safety features, and increased power respectively.

Power output with the Performance Pack is rated at 350kW, while torque remains the same at 740Nm. The vehicle is equipped with comprehensive ADAS, active and passive safety features, and advanced tech offerings such as internet connectivity, OTA upgrades, PolestarConnect, and Bluetooth.

The Polestar 2 impresses with its acceleration and handling, thanks to large Brembo brakes, 20-inch rubber on forged alloy wheels, and high-end Ohlins DFV adjustable dampers. However, the add-on packs significantly increase the price.

Overall, while the Polestar 2 offers strong competition in its segment, potential buyers may also consider alternatives like the Tesla Model 3 AWD and the Hyundai Ioniq 6, as BMW’s i4 AWD comes at a premium price.
